# Autonomous everything

I want a self driving car as much as the next person. But are we just being sucked into the hype of Tesla and Uber and Google?

What I mean by that is, I see how an autonomous car is cool and all that but is that the best we can come up with.

Here are a few autonomous things I thing are far cooler to think about and will change our lives considerably.

**The autonomous truck**

Ok so we are talking more and more about this one. If it’s easy enough to Uber people around in autonomous cars, why not freight? Basically once you have solved the problem of moving a vehicle around without crashing into things then you can put anything in it.

Uber and Otto have already put an autonomous truck on the road to deliver beer. Despite how responsible beer and trucks together are, it’s happening soon.

But soon the truck won’t need a cab or people. It will be fully autonomous.

**The autonomous RV**

So next, you have a big box you can move around. What are other big boxes on the road today. The RV or the Camper Van is next. Imagine seeing the country with a cup of tea and a crossword and not having to stress about driving your family in a truck?

**The autonomous boat**

What about boats? Surely an autonomous boat is simpler to do as there are less things for a boat to crash into? Honestly I thought there would be more development in this space, but it seems to only be getting started. But I think the killer feature is the autonomous pleasure craft, or yacht that you can hop on and hop off. Imagine exploring the Greek Islands, Fiji or the Bahamas in an autonomous boat that could take you interesting places while you sleep?

**The autonomous plane**

Well, drone not a plane but now you have a pod that can fly you anywhere. That’s cool, but you will want to ensure you have a good parachute system. This is where drone technology is making it safer and safer.

**The autonomous home**

Imagine an extension of the autonomous RV, and imagine if your home could lift itself up and move anywhere. Go to sleep on a Friday night and wake up to the view of the ocean in the morning. Monday morning you are back in the city. I think the tiny home movement will make living more and more portable. Check out whats some really clever people are doing in this space focussing on the living, not the technology.

Imagine if those with portable homes could join them together, like a Voltron, so you could come together then go your own ways over night so Mum crosses the country for her 8am meeting in Wellington or Washington. Dad and the kids are at the beach taking some time out.

Basically how we move around will become more autonomous. We can sleep on the go, eat breakfast on the go, socialise on the go, on the road, water and in the air. I think you can go to some pretty interesting places with automation, in ideas alone or literally.
