Well day two in Bangkok and what can I say? Well to start with I didn’t know what to expect so I guess that was a good place to start. After 20 hours on planes and in airports I finally arrived into Bangkok airport. Not as hot as I was preparing myself for. However spending over an hour in customs can make your temper warm. I stepped out past customs to find my Melly but rather I found a deserted airport. After walking around for 20 minutes I figured Melly had given up and gone straight to the hotel but before I left I turned with a sunken heart to see the most depressed looking girl I have ever seen walking my way. Despite the fact I was the only person standing in the middle of the airport Mel somehow didn’t notice me until I ran up to her, dropped my bags and breaking my duty free alcohol. After the expected welcomes we promptly found a cab and were on route to the hotel. Lets just say we were two happy campers.

The cab driver wasn’t 100% sure where we were going, and neither were we but after presenting him with a map and clear instructions we felt we were heading in the right direction. That was until we ran out of gas. In the fast lane of a 4 lane freeway and spluttering out of gas whilst the driver navigated across the other lanes of much faster moving traffic, on to the shoulder was quite fun. I don’t think Mel and I could believe it until I had a look at the fuel gage myself. Luckily we were by the off ramp we wanted anyway and we coasted down to a gas station. It was a good thing we ran out of gas actually because before then the driver had no intention of getting of at the correct off ramp. Someone’s watching!! I wont bore you with the details of the hotel. We went for lunch at a local food court and ate mystery food #1 and mystery food #2\. The rice was nice. That’s the great thing is everything is such an adventure. Like asking for directions or riding a tuk tuk. That night we did both. Some friends of mine, Levon and Jackie, were in Bangkok for the day before they flew on to London. The funny thing is that they both had just finished Malaysia too, the same as Mel and had been in all the same places but 2 days behind Mel. Mel and I wandered down the road to a restaurant Cabbages and Condoms where we were to meet Levon and Jackie. It seemed to take us an hour to walk what seemed to be just down the road. We eventually made it and had a great meal followed by an adventurous ride in a taxi to the Pat pong night markets with Jackie and Levon. Lets just say the driver was in his own little universe. We didn’t appear to be in any danger, but I think it was the drivers constant laughter that made us feel we were in no danger at all times. The markets were crowded and there seemed to be an over supply of watches and sunglasses. We found a nice bar and tried the local cocktails until an appropriate hour to go home. Caught a tuk tuk and boy I tell you it reminded me of my days on a scooter. In and out and around cars, car parks, road works and almost the tuk tuk itself. Great fun! But that could have been the cocktails! After being awake for 2 days I somehow managed to sleep last night.

Today has been shopping and shopping. I am starting to get into this bargaining thing. I haven’t bought anything yet as I figure it will take me a couple of days to figure out how much things should cost. Well I have plenty more to say but the internet Cafes here are not cheap. 90 baht or something for 30 minutes. Well that’s like only $4 but still! Write to you all soon.
