There is waaaay more for us all of us to learn from the sucksess stories than the success stories and the most important lesson to start with is don’t believe the BS hype about startups, entrepreneurialism, being a CEO or Founder. It has it’s great points, and can end really well if your measure of success is making heaps of money and you manage to do that, but it also sucks for a lot (most?) of the time, but you just don’t notice how sucky it is because you are in the hype bubble. Oh my marriage exploded? oh, ho ho ho it’s ok that’s just pah for the course. Oh I can’t sleep and suffer from anxiety attacks? Pffft that’s just what you need to do when you when you do big stuff — harden up. Oh, I’ve just lost everything and 10 years of my life’s work to investors and they have taken over. Well they know best and hey it’s their money they need to get 10x on. I understand.

The more we share the suck the better we prepare each other, set real expectations about what can happen (pick just one of the above three to be afflicted by if you are lucky) and how to avoid and/or cope with those situations.

Anyway, I am going to park the rant and just say thank you. I hope more of us can share these stories, if for the only reason to make US feel better and normal. But I do think there is more for others to learn from these hard-real-raw stories. We need more brave people like you to tell them. Kia kaha Jenene, kia kaha.
